Brahma i...@yo: More pretentious technicalities :P

1. Brahma is the prathama of Brahman. If I were to use 'Brahman' in quotes I would have used to original form.
For example, take the word Rama, the prathama is Rama, but Shashthi for example is Ramasya (meaning Ram's), I am weak with words ending with an n! For Karma, I am not saying that it's just good and evil, I am alluding to a general mechanism which makes people do "good", for Hindus its karma, for Muslims its wrath of god. I guess you'll agree with that :-)

2. Jains are atheist, I can conform that. The jain philosophers have given various arguments for atheism (they oppose the creator god who judges people) similar to the epicureans. Doesn't mean that they are against magic. They do believe that the Tirthankaras are enlightened souls.

3. For jains, they inflict self torture, especially the digambar kind. I will certainly agree that people will do crazy things without a god. But taking the god away gives them one less reason to justify the crazyness :-)

4. That's why I said it's unfinished. I find myself incapable of writing things down in a systematic fashion so that I can build up on the work over a period of months. It has to be a spur of the moment coffee shop inspiration :P

@Karthik: I think heretic is a perfectly wonderful and honorary title :DPhilip Careyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18117104815787114462noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12762527.post-11372160859359605662009-02-02T15:52:00.000-08:002009-02-02T15:52:00.000-08:00"by an older British heretic, Bertrand Russell."su..."by an older British heretic, Bertrand Russell."

such insolence :P

Although Russell might agree from his grave that heresy was one of his principal claims to fameKarthik Shekharhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14042591545423745449noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12762527.post-92080513139171323212009-02-02T15:26:00.000-08:002009-02-02T15:26:00.000-08:00Do write a book or something, I'll read it with mo...Do write a book or something, I'll read it with more interest than I read Dawkins :)

I think you're right in saying someone (I think it should be you :P) should refute Hinduism and all its crazinesses, but you should put more research into it...this post doesn't live up to your normal standards :PPritamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02741292218905282667noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12762527.post-70934548442892373672009-02-02T15:18:00.000-08:002009-02-02T15:18:00.000-08:00Just a few technicalities to strengthen your lette...Just a few technicalities to strengthen your letter and help you when you write your book:

It's not Brahma that's the substance, it's Brahman...Karma is more complicated than good or evil. Everyone gets to define his own good or evil.

(I thought) Jainism is not atheistic. It is nontheistic. If you're sure, I'll trust you on that and change my opinion :P

Since Hindus did evil things without the need for a God and Jains did evil things without a God (what did Jains do? I thought they were nice) and Christians did evil things with a God, maybe it's the people who are crazy. Even without religion, they would have done it ;-)Pritamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02741292218905282667noreply@blogger.com
